The School of Leisure Sports and Tourism originated from the "Social Sports Teaching and Research Section" of the School of Education. It has offered the "The program of Social Guidance and Management" since 1995. In 2012, the "Social Sports Department" was officially established , and "The program of Leisure Sports" added. In 2018, the department added "The program of Tourism Management" and renamed it "The School of Leisure Sports and Tourism".
The faculty members of the School are fast-thinking, experienced, and innovative, including 5 professors, 5 associate professors, 15 doctors, 2 doctoral supervisors, and 7 master supervisors.
The school offers 1 doctoral program (Sports Humanities and Sociology with focus on Tourism Management), 1 master's program (Physical Education and Training with focus on Recreation Sports, or Social Sports Guidance and Management), 1 professional master's program (Social Sports), and 3 undergraduate programs (Tourism management, Leisure Sports, and Social Sports Guidance and Management).
The program of tourism management has two fields: "sports tourism planning and design" and "sports tourism operation and management". This program is dedicated to training high-end talents in sports tourism product design and planning, sports tourism operation, and management.
The leisure sports major has two fields: "outdoor adventure" and "outdoor education". This program is dedicated to training high-end talents in the product design and planning of adventure tourism, senior outdoor instructors and coaches, outdoor education camp operators, and managers and teachers.
The school has successively established scientific research platforms such as Sports Tourism Research Institute, Outdoor Sports Research Center, and Smart Tourism Laboratory. In addition, faculty members have presided over more than 10 national and provincial and ministerial projects, including The National Social Science Fund of China and Beijing Social sciences Fund, as well as 12 school-level projects. Our faculty has won 2 national teaching achievements and 6 invention patents, and has published more than 100 articles in Tourism Management and other core journals, and more than 10 monographs.
The "Recreation, Leisure and Tourism Forum", an international academic seminar, and the "Beijing Sport University-Cologne Forum" were successfully held with well-known scholars invited to give lectures every year. We reinforce the internationalization of talent cultivation and establish joint training partnerships with universities abroad, such as the University of Alberta, Thomson University, Charles University in the Czech Republic, Limerick University in Ireland, and Springfield College in the United States. Outstanding students are funded by the school to study abroad and pursue a degree every year. In the future, we will further increase the number of cooperation plans and dispatches with well-known overseas universities, as well as joint training and double degrees.
