1. Key Laboratory of Sports and Physical Fitness of the Ministry of Education


The laboratory was established in 2008, and it was approved by the Ministry of Education as a key laboratory in 2009.


Based on the cutting-edge theory of physical fitness at home and abroad, the laboratory has conducted extensive basic and application research in sports and physical fitness for the demand of national fitness movement. Its main research includes assessment of physical fitness, guidance of scientific body-building, sport nutrition, assessment and health promotion of teenagers’ growth. Through gathering first-class talents in scientific research, it aims to build an open and interactive experimenting platform.


The laboratory implements the operation mechanism of “open, mobile, competitive and united”. Since its establishment, its research team has shouldered multiple national, provincial and ministerial level subjects, and it actively explores the mechanism of the commercialization of deliverables from scientific and technological research and participates in the technical services for all kinds of national fitness programs. It has provided technical guarantee for the programs of “benefiting the people with technology”, “monitoring Chinese people’s physique”, “standards for physical health of the students in our country” and “demonstration area of scientific body-building” pursued by our government.


2. Key Laboratory of Physical Efficiency Training and Functional Rehabilitation of the General Administration of Sport of China


The laboratory was established in September 2007, and now it is affiliated to China Institute of Sport and Health Science. Involving teaching, training and scientific research, it is an application research platform of science and technology featuring provision of service for the national teams, supported by scientific research, experiment and teaching, characterized by training in hypoxia.


Mainly engaged in the practice of training of physical efficiency and functional rehabilitation, the laboratory is capable of making theoretical and practical study and cultivating high-level talents. It is a key laboratory of General Administration of Sport of China able to provide physical efficiency training and functional rehabilitation service for outstanding athletes and provide technological support for tackling key problems of the Olympic Games. The laboratory is mainly involved in four research areas: training of physical efficiency, testing and assessment of somatic functions, training in hypoxia and functional recovery. At present, there are teams consisting of research and service experts in reasonable proportions in these four areas, and they are working at the frontline of scientific research and training of sports now.


3. Key Laboratory of Stress Adaptation of the General Administration of Sport of China


Key Laboratory of Stress Adaptation of General Administration of Sport of China was established in September 2007. Relying on the School of Sport Science and China Institute of Sport and Health Science of BSU and combining “education, training and scientific research", the laboratory explores the reasonable training means which is individualized, project-based and in stages on the basis of basic research, aiming to study and solve the theoretical and application challenges in sports training and popular fitness movement, raise the scientific rigor and effectiveness in the training of the outstanding athletes in our country while serving the popular fitness movement and promoting the health of general public.


4.Key Laboratory of Sports Training of the general Administration of Sport of China


Key Laboratory of Sports Training of General Administration of Sport of China is a sports scientific research institution named by General Administration of Sport of China and relying on BSU. The laboratory actively organizes the scientific research and technological service for high-level competitive sports, gathers and cultivates talents in sport science and technology, and launches high level academic cooperation and exchanges based on the development strategy of the national competitive sports and the development demand of sport training. It provides high-level scientific and technical innovation service for the development of competitive sports in our country, especially the preparations for and participation in the Olympic Games and the cultivation of adolescent back-up talents.


Since its establishment, the laboratory has tackled key problems in science and technology in and provided services for the Olympic Games for the national teams of track and field sports, swimming, speed skating, sled, shooting and toxophily, achieving remarkable effect.


5. Key Laboratory of Kinesiology Evaluation and Technical Analysis of Beijing


Key Laboratory of Kinesiology Evaluation and Technical Analysis of Beijing is a comprehensive sports scientific research laboratory jointly built by Capital University of Physical Education and Sports and BSU. Relying on the School of Sport Science and China Institute of Sport and Health Science, the laboratory is characteristic of the combination of “teaching, training and scientific research” and mainly serves the competitive sports and popular sports of Beijing.


Research areas: 1. Monitoring of kinesiology; 2.Sports and fatigue; 3. Sport nutrition and recovery means; 4. Psychological adjustment and construction of athletes; 5. Assessment method and molecular network mechanism of the effect of sports-based body-building; 6. Analysis and optimization of sport technique movements; 7. Evaluation and improvement of ability in special sports; 8. The screening and function identification of biological marks in the selection of athletes; 9.Prevention and treatment of athletic injury.


6. Beijing Higher School Engineering Research Center of Sport Nutrition


Beijing Higher School Engineering Research Center of Sport Nutrition is positioned to study the foundation and application of sport nutrition. Its research areas are sport nutrition and health, sport nutrition and sport performance, and the efficacy and development of sport nutriments. At present, the center is working around the following three aspects: strategy of Healthy China, strategy of good performance in the Olympic Games, and exchange and cooperation at home and abroad. In terms of public health, the center is undertaking one national-level subject and several provincial/ministerial level subjects and horizontal subjects currently; in terms of technology in Olympics, the center is conducting the technological service and study in assessment of somatic functions as well as nutrition and sport performance of athletes currently. The center invited the world-famous experts to give lectures and launch subject research in cooperation for many times, and it held the international forum of sport nutrition. In addition, the researchers of the center also actively participate in the international academic meetings to strengthen the academic exchanges with the domestic and international scholars.


7. Sport Philosophy and Social Science Research Base of the General Administration of Sport of China


The base was established in January 2004. Its vision is to implement a series of important deployment and strategic policies about the development of sports made by our Party and government. Its core work is to advance the program of Healthy China, national strategy of nationwide fitness program, and development strategy of building a country strong on sports, and to host the Winter Olympic Games and Winter Paralympic Games. Based on the main thinking of truth, innovation and exchange, the base seeks to promote the level of academic scientific research, advance the building of a first-class discipline, make innovations in the selection and cultivation of talents, and deepen exchange and cooperation, thus becoming a high-end academic platform integrating scientific research, teaching, think-tank and international exchange into a whole. Its main policy research fields include the study of the strategy and governance system of the development of China’s sports, study of the management of social sports organizations, study of public sports service, popularization and study of the national fitness program, and study of Olympics.


8.Sport Industry Research Base of the General Administration of Sport of China


Sport Industry Research Base of the General Administration of Sport of China (BSU), formerly the Sport Industry Research Center of BSU, was established in March 2014. It was selected as the sport industry research base in the first group in January 2018. Based in Beijing, the base serves the whole country with a global vision, solving the major theoretical and practical issues in the development of the sport industry of our country. The positioning of the Sport Industry Research Base of the General Administration of Sport of China (BSU) is:

The core think-tank base for the development of China’s sports industry;

An important platform for the exchange and cooperation of China’s international sports industry;

The “Huangpu Military School” for the cultivation of high-end talents of China’s sports industry.


This base sticks to the idea that scientific research serves the decision-making of the government and aims to solve the major theoretical issues in the development of China’s sports industry. The policy research fields of the base include sport industry planning, research of winter sports industry, research of the Olympic Games economy, development of sport resources, and policy research of the sport industry and development of sports lottery.


9. Laboratory of AI Sports Engineering


There is a large variety of data in sports: physiological indexes of the athletes, sport facilities and sporting events. A certain Big Data foundation has been formed through the development over the years. However, as to the element at the very core of sports, namely the movement information of human body, we still lack fully effective means to gather and digitize it in a highly revivifying way, so there is still not a vast quantity of high quality Big Data. So, gathering and sorting the athletes’ movements, studying their law with machine learning methods such as deep learning before utilizing them have become the core work of the Laboratory of AI Sports Engineering. The work of the laboratory will be the collection and application of data around “people”, and it will be deeply integrated with the practice of sports with technologies like the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence and virtual reality. Based on the results of the research in sport science and sport training, it will construct the Big Data of sports, study the law of human intelligent activity in sports, and build an intelligent system, providing new Hi-tech means to improve the athletes’ competing ability and promote the scientific body-building of the common people.


10. “Belt and Road” Joint Laboratory of Winter Sports


“Belt and Road” Joint Laboratory of Winter Sports was established by BSU to implement the “Belt and Road” initiative of the Central Committee of CPC, realize cooperation among different countries in making technological innovations, ensure the success of 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games and realize the sustainable development of winter sports in our country. Mainly engaged in the scientific research of Winter Olympic events, the laboratory strengthens the cooperation with the countries along the Belt and Road and the cultivation of talents of winter sports, strives to make technological innovation, and makes improvement to infrastructure, aiming to become a world-class winter sports laboratory and research base and guarantee the new model in the training of winter sports in our country and provide strong support for the development in science and technology of winter sports. This laboratory mainly consists of the experts and professors in sport science, sport medicine, sports psychology and sport training from BSU, and the experts and professors in the training and theory of winter sports and the winter sports industry in our country are engaged to be the advisors of the laboratory. The laboratory is making great efforts to contribute to the development of China’s winter sports.


11. Research Center of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era


Research Center of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era of BSU was established on November 1, 2017. This research center aims to publicize the spirit of the 19th National Congress of CPC, make deep study of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, accelerate the construction of a world-class sports university, and give full play to the advantage in talents and the role of demonstration of the school in the higher education of sports, making contributions in strength and spirit to the building of a country strong on sports. Relying on the research strength of several schools like the School of Marxism, the center integrates the advantageous research resources across the country to build a research institution supported by multi-disciplinary academic talents.


12. Winter Olympic Culture Research Center of BSU


Winter Olympic Culture Research Center of BSU is a key academic research institution and think-tank platform of BSU, and its research fields include the integration of the Olympic spirit and Chinese spirit, communication and inheritance of winter Olympic culture, and the influence of Winter Olympic Games on the urban development of the capital city and concerted development of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei. The development goal of Winter Olympic Culture Research Center is to become an Olympic culture research platform with international influence and a new high-end think tank serving the capital city.


On December 22, 2018, the Winter Olympic Culture Research Center was formally included into the source think-tank of Chinese think tank index (CTTI).


13. Sporting Event Production and Broadcasting Laboratory of BSU


Sporting Event Production and Broadcasting Laboratory of BSU is an open media convergence platform integrating TV, the Internet and mobile media, and it features multi-level teaching and multi-channel scientific research characteristic of a higher learning institution at the same time.


As the first domestic authentic media convergence platform built in accordance with the standard of 4K, the laboratory will regard the construction of a compound platform involving different industries, disciplines and fields as the goal, centers on the audience and users, and stresses on the sporting events and original ideas, making all-out efforts to create a new ecology through the interaction of media convergence.


The laboratory has a 4K IP broadcasting studio covering an area of 500 square meters and a post-production center covering an area of 900 square meters.


14. Sports Big Data Research Center


Established in December 2018, China Sports Big Data Research Center is devoted to building a big data platform for the sports industry and national sports big data engineering center to provide data support for the development of China’s sports industry in terms of data collection, modeling, analysis and application, including sports industry, sports economy, intelligent sports, healthy China, competitive sports and mass sports. The Center has two comprehensive research platforms for SAP sports big data and sports performance analysis.


Since establishment, the Center has successfully applied for two NSFC youth foundation projects, actively undertaken one national key R&D plan projects and one scientific and technological winter Olympics project as well as multiple national-level tasks, and has established good partnerships with a number of national teams and famous companies.


15. Exercise for Drag Reduction Research Center


Aimed to improve the competitiveness of China’s racing sports, oriented to the demands of sports teams, based on pneumatic drag reduction and frictional drag reduction theories and relying on the traditional sports disciplinary knowledge, BSU’s Exercise for Drag Reduction Research Center has established an inter-disciplinary research team integrating aerodynamics, tribology, materials science, sports biomechanics and other relevant disciplines. The Center works with team leaders, coaches, athletes and researchers to carry out skilled movement analysis and improvement and the innovative research of sports equipment based on exercise for drag reduction, in order to improve the performance of China’s racing sports. Committed to serving competitive sports in Olympics, the Center has carried out scientific and technological problem tackling in racing sports such as winter sports, water sports and cycling, achieving significant breakthroughs in the basic and applied research on exercise for drag reduction and forging a world-class sports exercise for drag reduction research institute.


16. Intelligent Sports Equipment R&D Center


Intelligent Sports Equipment R&D Center was established in September 2019 to conduct studies on the intelligent technologies of sports equipment for popular fitness, competitive sports and leisure sports. The Center has 4 sub-centers.


The Sports equipment Evaluation Center is mainly aimed to carry out functional tests on the performance and injury prevention of winter sports equipment, build a safety evaluation system for the use of winter sports equipment and formulate corresponding test standards, and research and develop a functional testing platform for the performance and injury prevention of winter sports equipment.


The Intelligent Sports Equipment Data Center is mainly aimed to accurately measure the data of physiological state and motion state during the exercise process via the intelligent sports equipment, in order to provide comprehensive intelligent data service for fitness and training.


The Winter Olympic Intelligent Training Equipment R&D Center is aimed to promote the intelligent upgrading of traditional winter sports training equipment replying on the winter Olympic sports equipment project of Ministry of Science and Technology, thus promoting the leapfrog development of China’s R&D ability in intelligent training equipment.


The Popular Fitness Intelligent Equipment R&D Center is aimed to gather the latest research findings in the field of active health to develop relevant intelligent sports equipment and promote the development of equipment in China’s exercise and health promotion field by relying on the “Active Health” major project of Ministry of Science and Technology and in combination with exercise prescriptions.


17. Exercise for Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Research Center


For the purpose of fully leveraging the advantages of sports-medicine integration and sports rehabilitation as a sophisticated discipline of Beijing, BSU officially established the Exercise for Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Research Center (ECPRRC) under the School of Sport Medicine and Physical Therapy on March 10, 2020. The Center focuses on cardiopulmonary function monitoring, cardiopulmonary exercise prescriptions & rehabilitation, intelligent products for cardiopulmonary recovery and traditional physical therapy to carry out multi-disciplinary joint problem tackling to meet national demand and race against time in scientific researches related to cardiopulmonary functional rehabilitation of COVID-19 patients. Current achievements include publication of e-book Guidelines for Exercise Rehabilitation for Discharged COVID-19 Patients, successful R&D of smart mask and bodybuilding techniques to strengthen body and lung function, which have been applied to epidemic prevention and control on the front line.
