Introduction to China Athletics College


Founded in 2017, China Athletics College (hereinafter referred to as the College) is affiliated to the Olympic Sports Division of Beijing Sport University (BSU). It is a professional academy that achieves the comprehensive and in-depth integration with the National Athletics Team and the National Youth Team. Guided by the requirements on high-end, integrated, international and collaborative talent training, it builds a “one-stop” education system integrating teaching, training, scientific research and logistics services from primary and secondary education to undergraduate and postgraduate education, to achieve a new model for training high-level track and field athletes, coaches, referees and scientific researchers with Chinese characteristics.


International training


The College introduces high-level foreign experts for intellectual support for the international training of students based on the three platforms at BSU, that is, IAAF RDC. Beijing, the IAAF High Performance Training Center (HPTC) and the IAAF Athletics College, and sends teachers and students overseas for double-degree study, further education and short-term exchange based on the “Double First-Class” construction project of BSU.


Talent training and faculty


BSU has trained a large number of high-level talents for the development of track and field sports in China. These excellent athletes have successively participated in the Olympic Games, World Championships, Asian Games and National Games, and repeatedly set the Asian records with outstanding results, including the female high jumper Jin Ling, the male high jumpers Zhou Zhongge and Zhang Shufeng, the male sprinters Zhou Wei, Zhang Peimeng and Wu Zhiqiang, the female sprinters Tao Yujia and Yang Huizhen, the female pole vaulter Li Ling, the male long jumper Li Jinzhe, the female race-walker Wang Liping, the female hammer thrower Liu Yinghui, the female shot putter Zhen Wenhua, and the female discus thrower Ma Xuejun. A total of 12 teachers and students of the College participated in the 2019 Doha World Championships and won three gold medals (Gong Lijiao, Liu Hong and Liang Rui) and two silver medals (Liu Shiying and Qiyang Shijie). Su Bingtian, a national sprinter, was enrolled in the College in 2019 for doctoral degree.


There are now 42 faculty members in the College, including 7 professors, 10 associate professors, 6 doctoral supervisors and 17 master’s supervisors. In addition to a track and field training base for the national team and a resident training base for superior national track and field sports in the Olympics, it also has the resources of training and scientific research facilities, including the indoor track and field training halls of international standards, the track and field venues of national standards, the key sports training laboratory of the General Administration of Sport of China, the intelligent digital strength and conditioning laboratory, the high-level sports team training monitoring and technical analysis laboratory and other high-quality support facilities for teaching, training and scientific services.


The College actively responds to the strategy of “building a country strong on higher education and sports”, and deepens the connotation construction with the reform and innovation as the driving force and the improvement of quality as the core, which will surely inject strong impetus into the rapid development and take-off of athletics in China.
