The 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics concluded on Feb 22 local time. The Chinese delegation finished with five gold, four silver and six bronze medals, for a total of 15 — its best-ever performance at an overseas Winter Games.

Athletes and alumni from Beijing Sport University (BSU) delivered an outstanding performance, contributing three golds, one silver and three bronze medals to the national tally.

In the gold medal events, BSU athletes delivered standout performances. On Feb 19 local time, Ning Zhongyan, a postgraduate student from BSU's 2021 Champion Class (class of 2021), won the men's 1500-meter speed skating title with a time of 1:41.98, setting a new Olympic record for this event.
Competing in her fifth Winter Olympics, Xu Mengtao, a doctoral graduate of BSU's class of 2023, successfully defended her title in freestyle skiing aerials, becoming the first athlete in the event to do so and cementing her place in Olympic history.
In the men's freestyle skiing aerials final, Wang Xindi, a BSU Champion Class alumnus (class of 2021), secured the gold medal with a score of 132.60 after successfully landing a high-difficulty jump with a degree of difficulty of 5.100.



In the silver medal events, the Chinese team achieved a remarkable one-two finish in the women's freestyle skiing halfpipe final, with Li Fanghui, a student from the class of 2023 at BSU's China Winter Sports College, securing the silver medal.

In the bronze medals, Ning Zhongyan, a BSU student, claimed bronze in the men's 1000m speed skating final, earning China's speed skating team its first medal of the Games.
Ning Zhongyan later teamed up with Li Wenhao, from the class of 2024 at BSU's School of Education, Liu Hanbin, from the class of 2025 at BSU's China Winter Sports College, and Wu Yu to win another bronze in the men's team pursuit, marking China's best-ever Olympic result in the event.
On Feb 21 Beijing time, the Chinese team of BSU alumni Xu Mengtao and Wang Xindi, together with teammate Li Tianma, secured bronze in the freestyle skiing aerials mixed team event.



While medals belong to the victors, applause belongs to every athlete who pushes their limits, even without standing on the podium.
On Feb 9 Beijing time, 19-year-old BSU athlete Liu Hanbin finished 17th in the men's 5000-meter speed skating with a time of 6:24.25, China's best Olympic finish in the event.

In the Men's and Women's Individual Normal Hill Ski Jumping events, Song Qiwu (2022 student) and Zeng Ping (2025 student) from BSU's China Winter Sports College, improved upon China's best historical results.
In the Ski Jumping Mixed Team final, the Chinese team, including BSU students Zeng Ping and Song Qiwu, achieved an 8th place finish, marking a new breakthrough.
In the Women's Individual Large Hill Ski Jumping event, Zeng Ping finished 21st.
Song Qiwu and his teammate finished 16th in the Men's Super Team Ski Jumping event.





In the Men's Doubles Luge, Hou Shuo, a 2024 student from BSU's China Winter Sports College, and his partner improved from 17th place at the Beijing Winter Olympics to 15th place in Milan – a two-place advancement representing a significant stride for the Chinese Luge team.
In the Women's Doubles Luge final, Zhao Jiaying (2025 student) from BSU's China Winter Sports College and her teammate secured 8th place, achieving China's best-ever result in this Olympic discipline.
BSU students Hou Shuo, Zhao Jiaying and Bao Zhenyu (postgraduate of 2025), together with their teammate, finished 7th in the luge team relay, achieving China's highest Olympic placing in the event.



In the newly added Women's Freestyle Skiing Dual Moguls event, Yang Ya (2024 student) finished 23rd.
In the women's snowboard big air final, 19-year-old Zhang Xiaonan, a student from the class of 2024 at BSU's school of China Ice and Snow Sports, finished 5th with a score of 144.50, matching China's best-ever result in the event.
Zhang Xiaonan also finished 24th in the Women's Snowboard Slopestyle qualification.

In the women's skeleton final, Zhao Dan, a student from the class of 2022 at BSU’s school of China Ice and Snow Sports, finished 8th, setting a best Olympic result for China in the event.
In the Mixed Team Skeleton competition, Zhao Dan and her teammate finished 5th with a total time of 1:59.93.


Beyond medals and rankings, the Games also celebrate perseverance and dedication. Cai Xuetong, a master's graduate from BSU's champion class (class of 2025) and a five-time Olympian, finished 6th in the women's snowboard halfpipe final, bringing her campaign at the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics to a close.
Qi Guangpu, the defending champion in men's freestyle skiing aerials, a five-time Olympian and a BSU champion class alumnus (class of 2019), competed through injury to reach the final and finished 6th.
In the Women's 500-meter short track speed skating final, Fan Kexin, a master's graduate from BSU's champion class (class of 2022), completed the race despite a collision and fall.
BSU faculty member Sui Wenjing and her partner, BSU alumnus Han Cong, embarked on their Olympic journey for the third time. On the evening of Feb 16, Milan time, coinciding with Chinese New Year's Eve, the duo performed their final free skate, bringing a graceful close to a partnership that has spanned over a decade.
