The 2026 BRICS Traditional and Indigenous Demonstration Games opened on Oct 12 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. Twenty-four faculty members and students from Beijing Sport University (BSU) joined the Chinese sports delegation, presenting three traditional Chinese sports: wushu, lion dance and health qigong.
At the event, delegations from Belarus, Bolivia, Brazil, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, India and other countries took turns showcasing traditional sports that reflect their respective cultural heritage.
The Chinese delegation presented three distinctive forms of traditional Chinese sports. In the wushu performance, BSU students demonstrated group tai chi, group broadsword routines, changquan (long fist) and various traditional weapons. Their precise movements and dynamic techniques showcased the strength and discipline of Chinese martial arts, while balancing power and grace.
The lion dance was performed by five BSU faculty members and students, who vividly brought the lion’s emotions and expressions to life. Combining martial arts, dance, traditional craftsmanship and folk music, the performance highlighted the rich heritage of this iconic Chinese folk tradition. The health qigong demonstration, presented jointly by the General Administration of Sport of China’s Health Qigong Administrative Center and BSU students, featured gentle, flowing movements that reflected the depth of China’s traditional practices for health and well-being.

With their skillful performances and confident stage presence, the young participants brought the charm of China’s time-honored traditional sports to an international audience, earning enthusiastic applause from delegations and spectators. Beyond the performances, they also engaged with athletes from other countries, exchanging skills and experiences and building friendships through sports.
