Outstanding achievements of students from BSU at Doha World Championships

The 10-day 2019 Doha World Championships closed in Khalifa Stadium on October 6. China ranked No. 4 in the medal chart with 3 gold medals, 3 silver ones and 3 copper ones, representing the best achievements over the past 26 years. Nearly 2,000 athletes from more than 200 countries and regions participated in Doha World Championships. The next event will be held in Eugene of the US in 2021. Several teachers and students from BSU showed an excellent performance in the world championships. All the 3 gold medals obtained by China were attributed to the champion class of graduate students of our university. Among them, Liu Hong from the class of 2016 together with Qieyang Shijie from the class of 2019 were the champion and runner-up of the women's 20 km-walking race, Liang Rui from the class of 2019 got the gold medal in the women's 50 km-walking race, and Gong Lijiao from the class of 2018 succeeded in defending the title of championship for the women's shot with the result of 19.55 meters.

After the competition, our university sent a letter in congratulation to the Track and Field Sports Administration Center of General Administration of Sport of China and CAA respectively. We expressed congratulations to the students of BSU and the national track and field team of China, and sincerely wished China will stand out with brilliant glory again in 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, winning even greater honor for our motherland and people!

On September 29, Liang Rui from 2019 graduate student champion class of our university grabbed the gold medal in the most strenuous women's 50 km-walking race with a result of 4 hours, 23 minutes and 26 seconds by overcoming the high temperatures. Liang Rui said with emotions after the race that “I feel today's contest is so significant. The world championships meet the 70th birthday of new China, so this championship is also my birthday gift to new China. Wish our motherland prosperity and constant growth.”

On September 30, Liu Hong from 2016 graduate student champion class won the title of championship with a result of one hour, 32 minutes and 53 seconds; Qieyang Shijie from 2019 graduate student champion class won the second place with a result of one hour, 33 minutes and 10 seconds. Liu Hong, covered with the national flag, received applause and cheers from the audience together with her teammates. The bright “Chinese red" became the most beautiful scene on the walking race track in Doha. After Rio Olympic Games, Liu Hong stayed away from sports events for a period and she was “upgraded” to be a mother. The 32-year-old came back for this season. She set a new world record of women's 50 km-walking race in March of this year, and this means she has kept the two world records of 20 km-walking race and 50 km-walking race.

On October 3, Gong Lijiao from graduate student champion class of 2018 succeeded in defending the title of championship for the women's shot with the result of 19.55 meters. Gong said clearly that her next goal is the championship of 2020 Tokyo Olympics. “My goal is clear, and winning the Olympic championship is my dream! Each athlete has his/her own bottleneck period, and I am no exception. However, I never give up because I have not fulfilled my dream. Nothing is more valuable than dream in our life.”

On October 1, the local time of Doha, Liu Shiying, a graduate student of the class of 2019 became the runner-up with the result of 65. 88 meters.

On October 6, Su Bingtian, a doctoral student of the class of 2019, Wu Zhiqiang, a graduate student of the class of 2017, and their teammates Xu Zhengzhou and Bie Ke ended up in the sixth place in the final of 4x100 m relay race with the result of 38.07 seconds. They succeeded in obtaining the admission ticket for Tokyo Olympic Games. In the preliminary heats before that, they created a new national record with the result of 37.79 seconds.
