National Indoor Athletics Championships in BSU
The 2014 National Indoor Athletics Championships, hosted by the Chinese Athletic Association, was held in Beijing Sport University on March 21 and 22. Over 900 coaches and athletes from 31 teams nationwide participated in the competition. Two national records were broken during the two day event: Zhang Guowei, a high jumper from Shandong province, leaped his way to history with a jump of 2.33m, breaking the previous record (which he set himself last year) by 1cm. Fujian athlete Wang Qingling broke the women’s pentathlon record with 4415 points.
The performances of BSU student athletes were remarkable as well. Yang Huizhen, a sophomore in the Physical Education School, ran her way to first place in the women’s 400m with a time of 54.23 seconds. Li Ling, a graduate student won the pole vault with a jump of 4.3 meters. Deng Ru won the women’s 60m hurdles with a time of 8.42 seconds and Wang Lin placed first in the women’s high jump with a jump of 1.84 meters; both are undergrads from the Sport Coaching School. Lin Huijun was the runner-up in the women’s 60m and 200m clocking in at 7.6s and 24.41s respectively. She too is an undergraduate in the Sport Coaching School.
Gratitude was expressed by the Chinese Athletic Association to the participants, especially the referees and judges, with whose endeavors and devotion ensured the success of this event.
