The Sport Training and Competition Committee of Beijing Sport University is responsible for the general affairs of our university’s training and competitions. The Training and Competition Management Division implements the specific administrative affairs and service of the whole university’s training and competitions. It is aimed at achieving excellent performance domestically and internationally, refining the scientific training experience, building efficient management models and training high-level referees and athletes. The vice president professor Liu Daqing is the director of the Sport Training and Competition Committee; the committee members include the heads of the university’s teaching, training, scientific researching and logistics departments, faculty leaders of the Sport Coaching School, the Sport High School, the Wushu School and the Physical Education School, as well as some sport coaches.
Sport High School and its achievements
The Sport High School of Beijing Sport University is an important base of training high-level competitive sport athletes. Over the past 30 years, the Sport High School has cultivated a large number of excellent athletes. They have attained both theoretical and professional quality. Some of them have gone on to university for their bachelor degree and master degree; they are the pillars of the development of sports in China. The Sport High School has cultivated many famous athletes, such as Chen Zhong, Wang Xue, Luo Wei, Zhang Guozheng, Zhang Xiangxiang, A Di Jiang, Jin Ling, Feng Kun and so on. The athletes of Sport High School have been awarded 6 gold medals, 5 silver medals and 4 bronze medals in Olympic Games. In other world competitions, they have received 43 gold medals, 33 silver medals and 38 bronze medals. In the Asian Games, they received 90 gold medals, 60 silver medals and 56 bronze medals. And in the national competitions, they won 1285 gold medals, 958 silver medals and 803 bronze medals in total. Over the past ten years, the Sport High School has trained many talented athletes, 14% of athletes have gone to the national teams, 10% of athletes have gone to the national youth teams, 13% of athletes have gone to the provincial teams and 60% of athletes have gone to university for further study. The Sport High School’s educational model fully shows its high yield and strong vitality, it has created a high level path of cultivating comprehensive development of athletes.
Top level referees’ cultivation
From 2003 to 2011, Beijing Sport University has trained 3302 referees (including international level, national level and category I referees) of which 7 referees are international level, 73 referees are national level, 3222 referees are category I level, and there are 12946 referees are category II level. During this 9 year period, Beijing Sport University has cultivated 18 international elite athletes, 189 national elite athletes and 397 category I athletes.
The referees from Beijing Sport University are widely praised in many international and national sports competitions. In the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, there were 3 teachers from our university who served as the gymnastics and wrestling referees. In 2005, 25 persons from our university took part in the 10th National Games as the referees. In 2006, 15 teachers from our university took part in the referee work of the 11th World Athletics Championship. In the 15th Doha Asian Games, there were 2 referees from our university. In 2008, there were 180 persons from our university that took part in the referee work of many international and national competitions. 13 referees of the 11th National Games came from our university. At present, Beijing Sport University has fostered many excellent referees who played the role of chief referees in many important international and national competitions, such as Tan Hai, Zhang Yingqiu, Yang Binsheng, Wen Yuhong, Li Yingkui, Zhang Xia and so on.
From 2003 to 2012, Beijing Sport University has cultivated 18 athletes of international level, 189 athletes of national level, 397 athletes of category I level, 4972 athletes of category II level and 921 athletes of category III level.
The achievements in 2004, 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games
In the last three Olympic Games, our university’s athlete took part in 16 sports including men’s artistic gymnastics, women’s judo, cycling, table tennis, taekwondo, weight lifting etc. At these three consecutive Olympics, our athletes have won 40 medals in total including 20 gold medals, 14 silver medals and 6 bronze medals.
The achievements in other world-class sport events
During the years 2003 to 2011, our university students took part in many world class sport events including the World Championships, the World Cups, the Universiade and the World Youth Championships. In these world-class sport events, our students have won 143 medals in total including 62 gold medals, 40 silver medals and 41 bronze medals.
The achievements in the Asian-level sport events
During the year of 2003 to 2011, our university students took part in various Asian-level sport events they’ve received 135 gold medals, 29 silver medals and 41 bronze medals.
The achievements in national-level sport events
During the years 2003 to 2011, our university students took part in many national-level sport events such as the National Games, the National Championships, the National Tournaments and the National University Games etc.. They have won 1220 gold medals, 906 silver medals and 775 bronze medals in total.
