The ISSP 13th World Congress of Sport Psychology in Beijing Sport University
On July 21st, the ISSP 13th World Congress of Sport Psychology celebrated its opening in Beijing Sport University. Under the theme of Harmony and Excellence in Sport and Life, the congress lasted for 5 days, containing 9 keynote presentations, 63 symposia (consisted of 298 oral presentations), 579 poster presentations and 8 workshops. The topics of the presentations fell into 4 broad categories, Sport and Exercise Psychology, Motor Control/Learning, Methodology and Special Issues, further divided into 27 subcategories. Participants of the congress consisted of 433 foreign scholars, 175 scholars from mainland China and 52 scholars from Hong Kong and Taiwan, including 14 members of the Managing Council of the International Society of Sport Psychology (ISSP), 11 members of the Managing Council of the Asian and South Pacific Association of Sport Psychology (ASPASP), 5 members of the Managing Council of the European Federation of Sport Psychology (FEPSAC), 2 winners of the ISSP Developing Scholar Award and 1 winner of the ISSP Distinguished International Sport Psychologist Award.
The congress collected the theoretical and applied research in the three major fields of sport psychology, namely competitive sport, exercise, and physical education, with the current research summarized and reviewed, and the new research progress and perspectives introduced. The congress provided all the participants the opportunity of accessing the world-class research progress and the cutting-edge research direction, established a worldwide platform for the academic communication of the scholars in sport science, and founded the solid platform for promoting the development of sport psychology in China and all over the world.
Started in 1965, the World Congress of Sport Psychology is organized every 4 years, representing the highest level of academic research of sport psychology worldwide. In the meeting of the Managing Council of the ISSP held on June 16th 2009 in Marrakech, Morocco, Beijing Sport University, on behalf of China, won overwhelmingly in the anonymous ballot on the hosting of the 13th World Congress of Sport Psychology by 10 votes. This is the second time the congress is held in Asia, and the first time that the international conference of the largest scale and the highest level in the field is held in China.
