Professor Helmut Digel at BSU
Professor Helmut Digel from Tuebingen University in Germany gave five lectures to BSU graduate students majoring in Sport Management from October 14-18. Professor Digel spent the following week giving lectures in Jimei University in Xiamen and Hunan Normal University in Changsha. During his two-week stay in China, he gave talks on several topics including Sport Changes from A Sociological Aspect, Risks in Youth Olympic Movement, the Olympic Movement and Regional Development, and Resources for World Class Performances. Students liked his lectures very much because all of his ideas about sport were very insightful and thought-provoking. Dr. Digel said he was very impressed by Chinese students’ questions about sport, and he tried his best to answer them all.
Though this was not his first time in China, Dr. Digel still found many places of interest in China to be very attractive. During his stay in Beijing, two graduate students accompanied him to visit several famous sights such as the Forbidden City, Jingshan Park and Yonghegong Lama Temple. The two students said, “Professor Digel asked many questions about Chinese culture during this trip, and his way of thinking provoked us to stay curious about everything, which I think is a very important trait for students to develop if they want to study sociology well.”
