Cao Weidong, Han ethnicity, was born in May 1968 and is from Funing, Jiangsu Province. He is a member of the Communist Party of China (CPC), a professor and doctoral supervisor with a PhD. Currently, he serves as CPC Committee secretary and president of Beijing Sport University (BSU), director of the Sports Officials’ Training Center of the General Administration of Sport of China (GASC), president of the GASC Coaching Academy, and vice president of the GASC Party School.
Previously, he served as vice dean of the School of Chinese Language and Literature of Beijing Normal University (BNU), director of the Publicity Department of the CPC BNU Committee, director of BNU’s CPC Committee Office and President’s Office, assistant to the president, vice president of BNU, and president of Beijing International Studies University.
President Cao studied at the Department of Western Languages and the Institute of Comparative Literature of Peking University, Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and the Faculty of Social Sciences, Goethe University Frankfurt.
He was selected into the Ministry of Education's New Century Talents Program, the National New Century Talents Program, and the Beijing Social Sciences Theoretical Talents Project. He was awarded the May 4th Medal of Beijing Municipality, the Special Subsidy of the State Council and the Degas Bank Award.
He was successively elected a deputy to the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, a deputy to the Haidian District People's Congress, a deputy to the National Congress of China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and a member of the CPPCC Beijing Municipal Committee.
